Revlon Lip Butter - 'Sweet Tart'

SAM_1510-001

Undoubtedly you will have already heard a lot about Revlon Lip Butters, but I've only recently been able to get hold of one as due to thy hype, they've been sold out in my local boots.

Despite reading all the rave reviews, I was still surprised at how good this product is when I first used it. I was expecting a very moisturising tinted lip balm, but when I applied this to my lips it came out with lipstick opacity. The product looks opaque on your lips and is shiny but not glossy. It also applies really well due to of it's buttery formula.

The lip butter wears well considering it's so moisturising, the colour lasts quite a long time. I think that you'd need to re-apply this product every hour or so (after wearing for an evening my lips were a little tinted when I took it off).

Revlon state that the lip butter "boosts lip moisture by 156%", I think this is a tall claim and don't think that this moisturises as well as my beloved blistex/carmex balms but they are balms specifically for dry chapped lips so that's a tall order. The bottom line is that the lip butters moisturise my lips better than any lipstick and better than a lot of balms.

Overall I would give this a 9/10 for great coverage, good wear and moisture. It retails at £7.99 which I don't think is too steep for such a quality product, but I got £2 off mine with a boots voucher.

Polka Dot & Moustache Nails

SAM_1562-001

Life is much more fun when you have teeny moustache's on your nails! To do mine I used Rimmel 5 in 1 base & topcoat and Revlon 'white on white' (050) . Then I cut off the tips of a cocktail stick and filed them with a nail file to create a dotting tool. I dotted Sally Hansen's 'gray by grey' (350) and 'plums the word' (360) on 3/5 fingers. To do the teeny tache's I dipped an old eyeliner brush into a drop of Revlons 'Black Lingerie' (919) and painted two flicks in a sort of 'w' shape, then filled in the top of the moustache with another two flicks. Then finally I finished with a topcoat.

Painting freehand onto your nails takes practice but I think that if you have a clear idea of what you're doing then you should be ok. A step by step plan of the strokes you'll use to create your design is really useful, try painting onto paper first.
By only painting on 4/10 nails I cut my time way down, even though the moustaches aren't particularly hard and I do love spending time painting my nails, I think if I'd done one on each nail I would've been there for a long time. Alternating and doing cute dots on the other fingers saved me a lot of time (and stress probably).
When painting freehand like this I find that it takes a long time for the polish to dry, so make sure that you let your pattern dry completely before painting over a topcoat. And when you do paint on a topcoat be careful not to pull at the polish, even though it might be tough dry it may still pull with your brush.

Pretty Wedding Guest Dresses

I've been invited to my boyfriends fathers wedding in September. I don't think I have been to a wedding since I was a bridesmaid for my aunt when I was a very little so I'm pretty excited, partly as one of the biggest perks of going to a wedding is the excuse to put on a pretty dress, shoes and wear beautiful hair.

I'm going to do a few posts around wedding attire, including dresses, accessories and beauty. As a wedding lasts for the better part of a day it's important to think about how they your outfit, hair and make up will work throughout the day. It's a task far harder than choosing an outfit for a dinner or party - but in my opinion far more exciting.

There are several things to think about when choosing your dress. Perhaps the most important is what the bridesmaids are wearing. In most traditional weddings bridesmaids wear matching gowns so if you do end up in the same colour you won't be too red faced but a lot of brides let bridesmaids go for different dresses that tie together. At Elsie's wedding the bridesmaids all wore short nude/white dresses with colourful tights and shoes, I love mismatched dresses on bridesmaids but it makes it easy for guests to fall into the trap of accidentally turning up looking just like one of the bridesmaids.

Another thing to think about is how appropriate your dress is for a wedding. You will look ridiculous if you turn up in a skin-tight body con dress with your boobs falling out. Guests should be looking at the bride not your vpl!

Go for a dress that you are comfortable in. You might be sitting down for an hour in a freezing cold church for the ceremony, so bring something to wrap up in if it's going to be cold. On the other hand, you don't want to be working up a sweat when you're dancing at the reception so if it's a summer wedding and likely to be hot, go for breathable fabric like cotton and something that is light and won't stick to you.

Personally, I wouldn't want to wear anything too constricting or tight - there will be food, I don't want to be bursting out of my dress after dinner and I think it's really important to be comfortable seeing as it will be a long day filled with sitting, dancing, eating, circulating & talking, it makes sense to wear something that you are happy in and won't want to rip off as soon as you've had a slice of wedding cake.

Finally, choose a dress with longevity. I hardly ever go to weddings so it doesn't make sense to pick out a dress that wouldn't work in any other situation. You want to be wearing something that's your style anyway, don't make the mistake of picking something that you wouldn't usually go for only to look back on the pictures in regret and have the dress collecting dust at the back of your wardrobe.  Chose a dress that you can either dress down to wear everyday or that you could dress up for nights out.
