A Slice of Fashion: Alexander McQueen

Parties — Alexander McQueen Spring 2012

Beautiful, fluffy, springy femininity from Sarah Burton yet again for Alexander McQueen ss12. Lady Gaga has already donned one of the dresses for her shoot in Elle UK's January. That's not surprising when you look at the whole collection (and I suggest you do) Sarah Burton has managed to make layers of embroidered organza and hand massaged ruffles look as if they sprouted out of the models themselves in Black Swan style only the models are more like mermaids, with elaborate fitted bodices and frothy tails. There's a skeletal feel with the lace headpieces but it isn't eerie, it's very natural. The dresses look like frothy seas rather than Halloween creations.

Face Flats

image
::

I really want some fun flats like these gorgeous Charlotte Olympia Kitty Shoes (top) but at £485 hey are about £460 out of my price range. Since Alexa Chung, Katy Perry and Sarah Jessica Parker have all been spotted wearing them I'm hoping the high street will come up with some cheaper alternatives.
Right now you can get some cute face shoes from Asos, and there are lots of fun knitted animal slippers at Urban Outfitters if you don't fancy wearing faces on your feet outside.

Kate Middleton's Zara dress

Kate Middleton at the Prince's Trust concert - celebrity fashion
I love Kate Middleton, there's so much hype around Pippa (and her derriere) but I much prefer Kate; I love her style and, well she's a bit less orange.
She donned that gorgeous Ralph Lauren jacket and a lovely Zara dress for last nights Prince's Trust concert. The dress has unsurprisingly sold out but you can get the skirt online right now.

Summer Days

I am massively missing home right now, or just my family, I'd love a day of my summer back again. Really looking forward to Christmas now! I do long for summer, the best days in the year are from August to mid October, the light is golden and warm, sunsets are long and in the Autumn the sun sets low in the sky so you get a beautiful orangey light and purple clouds for a blissful hour every evening.

Baby it's cold outside

It's time to wrap up warm, I'm sure it was well below freezing today! The bitter wind in Lincoln doens't help. So I'm looking for some pretty mittens to keep my hands warm at the moment, I'd love a Missoni pair but I think the Dorothy Perkins faux fur trimmed mittens (complete with a tie like you had when you were little) might be even cuter. Unfortunately I don't think that the high street can compete with Miu Miu's feather stole but the black alternative from Oasis is really pretty and on sale for just £17, which is more than 25x cheaper.
I am loving the range of scarves from Beta - sold at topshop, they are the most original and beautifully printed scarves I have ever seen on the high street; they are really stunning.

Interstellar Dust - £35 and Graphic Gardener - £30

How beautiful does Lady Gaga look for this months Elle? Her eyes are just stunning! The article is a good read too, Mark Ellen gives very vivid visual descriptions of Gaga on her photo shoot while he interviews her on her sexual ambiguity, devoted monsters and life of fantasy.

Issa London

I love the popping brights and jewel tones at the Autumn Winter Issa show. The printed blouses, opaque tights and woollen mini skirts were the warmest looking autumn clothes I've seen so far on the catwalk. All of the looks are ultra flattering with perfect draping to hide anything unsightly. Nothing was too sheer or short and most of the pieces have long sleeves or the models wore long gloves but the collection was kept fun and flirtatious with strappy heels and pointy toed shoes (from Manolo Blahnik) giving models elf like feet.

Kinder Aggugini

Monochrome has never looked so good. Sophisticated and adventurous tailoring was key to keep this collection from boring - with a little help from ankle strap glittery metallic heels! I'm not usually a fan of A-symmetry but here it works, updating simple dresses and straying away from being overly girly while keeping feminine shapes.
